FAQ

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns that remain unanswered after reviewing the Frequently Asked Questions below.

Who should I contact if I suddenly become sick prior to my surgical procedure?

Please contact your surgeon’s office as soon as there is a change in your physical condition leading up to your surgical date. Changes in physical condition include nausea, vomiting, acute onset pain, cough, cold, fever, and signs or symptoms of infection including open scratches, cuts, sores, redness, soreness or swelling.

Why do I need to avoid eating and drinking after midnight the day of my surgical procedure?

This is a precaution required by anesthesia. You must have an empty stomach during the administration of anesthesia due to serious and possibly fatal risks of respiratory complication. Please alert a clinical staff member and your anesthesiologist as soon as possible if you have mistakenly consumed anything including food or drink.

Why does my care partner need to stay within the shopping center for the duration of my surgery?

For your safety, we ask that your care partner stays at the center. Should there be an emergency, we need to be able to get a hold of your care partner immediately. Also, only the person that you have consented may resume your care upon discharge from our facility.

Why do I have to remove my jewelry and body piercings?

When exposed to electrical equipment in the OR, jewelry can cause skin irritations. There is also the possibility of swelling around your jewelry as well as a higher risk of infection. It is better to simply remove your jewelry prior to arriving at the surgical center.

What medications or vitamins should I take prior to my arrival at the surgical center on the morning of my surgery?

Our nurses will provide clear instructions on which medications should be taken the day of the surgery. Be sure to take the medications that you are instructed to take with as little water as possible.

How long will my surgical procedure take?

The duration of your surgery will vary. Factors contributing to the surgical duration include both the procedure and the patient. Please consult your surgeon for further details on the duration of your scheduled procedure. Note: your time spent at the center will differ from the surgical time.

Will I be permitted to meet with my surgeon prior to surgery?

Your doctor will meet with you prior to proceeding with your surgery to address any last-minute concerns or questions.

Can I speak to my anesthesiologist prior to my procedure?

Yes. The anesthesiologist will meet with you prior to your surgery. He or she will go over previous health issues and anesthesia experiences to develop an anesthesia plan. The anesthesiologist is available to answer any questions or concerns about anesthesia that you may have.

Will my care partner (family or friend) be apprised of my condition throughout my surgery experience?

Yes. Your doctor may also inform your care partner of your condition and outcomes after surgery. You will be joined by your care partner in the post-operative recovery area to receive discharge instructions.

What discharge instructions will I receive?

Each surgical procedure is different and as such, your discharge instructions may be different. A nurse will go over discharge instructions tailored to you and your surgical procedure in the final stages in recovery.

After discharge, will I be permitted to drive myself home?

No. The anesthesia and pain medications you may receive during your surgery may impair your ability to drive for 24 hours. We insist that you have a care partner available to receive discharge instructions, drive you home and help you with your after care. You will not be permitted to use public transportation of any kind – taxi, public transit, Uber/Lyft, etc. – unless accompanied by your care partner.

Can I recover by myself at home?

No. We kindly ask that you have a responsible adult (care partner) available to you for the first 24 hours after discharge. This person is to supervise and assist in any after care instructions. We will call you to follow up, the next business day after your procedure. If you experience any complications or adverse side effects, call your doctor immediately or call 911.
